Listen; as much as we love Gi training around here at MMA Industries, we know that it can be a controversial subject. Depending on who you talk to, it can either be a hindrance (Eddie Bravo) or a godsend (The Gracie family). Regardless of how you feel about the Gi, it’s always good to have some quality grappling shorts and rashguards when the no-Gi mood strikes you. For some of the cleanest, most functional designs around, check out some of Nogi Industries’ gear. The company was started by former UFC and PRIDE fighter Chris Brennan in 2003. Any company started by a fighter, for fighters, is certainly one to keep an eye out for. For one, fighters know exactly what needs to go into the gear they manufacture. The in-cage experience is invaluable when it comes to research and design for new products. Also, fighters just seem to “get it,” when it comes to aesthetic design. The person who gets in the gym, on the mats, in the ring, and in the cage on a daily basis knows he or she is a force to be reckoned with, and they don’t need their clothing and training gear to advertise this fact for them. Nogi prides themselves of their low-key approach to fight gear and apparel. Their designs are very clean, with minimal wild, in-your-face-skull-and-crossbones graphics that some have come to associate with mixed martial arts and grappling apparel. Let your technique, precision, quickness, and toughness do the talking for you, not your clothes. Don’t get us wrong; the gear isn’t boring looking by any means. There’s just enough flash to let you know that they’re great pieces, but they’re not ostentatious, which, to us, is a great thing. Peruse MMA Industries’ Nogi selection, grab a pair of fight shorts, a baseball cap, maybe an IBJJF-approved ranked rashguard, and get back on the mats in classy style!
