Boxing has its punches. Karate and kickboxing have their long range kicks. What sets Muay Thai apart from these other disciplines is the damage we can do in close with our other weapons, namely the knees and the elbows. We also punch and kick like the other disciplines, but when we get in close, there’s no ref pulling us apart; we’re doing damage. The elbow strike is one of the most vicious, damaging blows that can be dealt while in tight to an opponent. The striking surface is unpadded and rock hard, and the impact surface is very small, which is the perfect recipe for savage cuts and blunt force trauma. Elbows are the razor-studded clubs of the body. The brutal effectiveness of these strikes makes them an integral part of the Muay Thai striking arsenal, but they can be difficult to train with any force for fear of damaging a sparring partner. Luckily, Windy makes a killer elbow pad that is designed specifically for the purpose of attenuating the tremendous, sharp impact of an elbow strike. If order for you to be able to execute a technique powerfully and reflexively, you must train it extensively against a resisting opponent. This is a basic tenet of all effective combat sports. Get yourself a pair of Windy elbow pads and train elbow strikes! The design features a form-fitting, compression fit in addition to a hook and loop strap that ensure that the pads stays centered over the elbow… the last thing you want is to throw an elbow into your sparring partner’s face, only to realize that the elbow pad you’re wearing has shifted out of position. Dense foam padding provides the necessary impact disbursement. In addition to training, most amateur organizations require elbow protection. Any way you slice it, you’re going to need elbow pads for serious Muay Thai training; why not check out the Windy pads offered to you by MMA Industries?
