Believe it or not, Keiko Raca has been around since 1988. During their early years, Keiko Raca actually manufactured many other wel-known brands’ products. Finally, in 1995, they started making gi’s and combat sports apparel under the name “Keiko Raca.” Keiko Raca has been doing the whole “gi” thing for a long time now, and they certainly have the process down to a science. With a careful eye directed at the past for traditional inspiration, Keiko Raca still pushes the envelope in modern gi design. Their gi’s undergo a preshrinking process that minimizes the amount of shrinkage due to the washing and drying process. It is important to note that this doesn’t eliminate shrinkage altogether, but it certainly reduces it. Gone are the days of having to pass gi’s down to your undeserving kids because your wife (or husband!) did you the favor of putting your gi in the wash! Most of their gi’s are CBJJ and IBJJF approved, which is definitely a plus… is there anything worse than driving for hours and showing up to an expensive Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu tournament, only to find out that the gi you brought isn’t approved for competition? It sucks, trust us. Their gi’s run the gamut from affordable kids sizes, to women-specific designs, to lightweight summer weaves, to super fancy, seminar-worthy pieces of functional art. One thing to note is that Keiko Raca gi’s are generally cut a little on the slim side, so that is something to keep in mind while choosing a size (I’m 5’10”, 160-170lbs depending on how many new white belts I’ve eaten, and I wear an A3 in Keiko gi’s). In addition to gi’s, Keiko Raca also offers a full line of fight shorts and ranked rashguards, which are a must if you plan on competing in any IBJJF sanctioned events.
